Welcome to PsyGrid
PsyGrid is a new e-Science project that will provide resources to clinicians, researchers and others interested in first episode psychosis. We are funded by the Department of Health and the Medical Research Council. We operate in each of the UK Mental Health Research Network (UKMHRN) hubs – eight in all, throughout the UK.
PsyGrid will initially track a large, representative cohort of individuals with first episode psychosis to enable epidemiological and intervention research. The results will be particularly applied to preventing and predicting adverse outcomes.
PsyGrid will collect data through databases, e-Learning resources, electronic records and communications systems. All these elements will be linked together by a grid on the NHS.net server.
PsyGrid is needed because 1.5% of the population will suffer from psychosis at some point in their lives. The outcome of a high proportion of these cases can be negative, producing a huge burden on peoples lives and the NHS. PsyGrid aims to provide a service that will reduce these costs, while at the same time building the care-research interface that is required for the progression of Mental Health Treatment.
